Sportsmen love this kind of jewelry

A duck like this drake woody carrying a leg band is a rare prize that all waterfowl hunters seek.

Waterfowl leg bands will make hunters smile

The one piece of jewelry that many sportsmen and sportswomen would love to own comes off the leg of a duck or goose.

Few things can make a waterfowl hunter smile to compare with picking up a bagged bird and finding a leg band. They are often displayed with pride and passion around the lanyard that holds a hunter’s calls, and each is a prize worthy of adoration.

“You have to kill a lot of ducks to find one with a band,” said duck hunter Corey Holcombe of Liberty, “but when you do, it makes the hunt all the more rewarding.”

Ducks and geese are banded with leg bands by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Each band is recorded and unique. Hunters who kill ducks with a band, can call the telephone number on the band and get a report of when and where the bird was banded, and all other information on that bird that was collected.

One of the most interesting is the age of the birds and the miles it has travelled.
