Black bass as a bonus

Preston Harden enjoys all types of fishing and is certainly not against catching black bass, spotted and largemouth, on Lake Hartwell.

“Actually, there’s no way to avoid it unless you chose to not fish topwater schooling fish during June,” he said. “Most fishermen enjoy it as a bonus. When fish are schooling and you work a Zara Spook or similar topwater lure over the surface, you’re most likely to catch a striper or hybrid, but often it will be a big spotted bass or even a largemouth. We catch a lot of big black bass that tournament fishermen would be proud to have at a weigh-in. It’s not something I necessarily plan on, but in the normal course of fishing during June, it’s very likely that we’ll hook into several black bass on any given day. But that’s just another bonus of June topwater fishing.”
