Fliers are among the most unique panfish in the Carolinas
The Carolinas are full of numerous species of panfish, and for their size, they all fight like champs. They’re also very tasty. Fliers, although they are found throughout the southeast, are among the least widely distributed panfish, mostly living in swampy, acidic blackwater creeks with low pH.
Where you’ll find fliers, you can always count on finding other panfish as well. They overlap with crappie, bluegill, redbreast and shellcrackers, among other species.
In Season 6, Episode 12 of Carolina ALL OUT, Chris Douglas joins up with NCWRC wildlife biologist Kevin Dockendorf as they journey up North Carolina’s Yeopim Creek in Perquimans County, catching fliers alongside crappie.
