It’s grouper season for Carolina anglers

Grouper season opened May 1

Numerous grouper, snapper, and several other bottom fish species came into season May 1 off the Carolina coastlines. Groupers and snappers put up a great fight, and they taste great on the table. Anglers catch them by using bait or jigs on the bottom.

Grouper are notorious for grabbing your lure and running into holes in the reefs, leading to quick break-offs. Hooking these fish is just one part of a hard-fought battle.

This episode of Carolina Fishing TV shows all the basics of fishing for grouper, all the way down to cleaning them. They catch some groupers and other bottom species. And pay attention to the boat they’re fishing in — it’s a nice boat, but not a big fancy rig. That means this type of fishing is available to a wide variety of anglers, whether fishing from their own boat or fishing with a charter business.
