Mount Pleasant man wins Bag-A-Buck 2 contest

John Strong won the Bag-A-Buck 2 contest with this 175-pound, 8-point buck killed last Nov. 2 in Hampton County.

Hunter’s first buck carries double reward

John Strong of Mount Pleasant killed an 8-point buck in Hampton County last Nov. 4.
It was a first for him — two firsts, in fact. The 175-pound buck was the first of his hunting career. And he said that he’d never won anything before; his was the winning entry in South Carolina Sportsman’s Bag-A-Buck 2 contest.

Strong’s grand prize includes a Burris scope and a 2-day trip to Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge — to see if he can take Buck No. 2.

Strong was hunting in Hmpton County on property that some friends had permission to hunt. A long-time sportsman, last fall was his first deer season. It became a success on the morning of Nov. 4, at 7:30 a.m., when his big buck wandered into a field on the trail of a doe.

Strong made a one-shot kill from 50 yards with his Browning .270.

He entered his deer in the Bag-A-Buck 2 contest the same day.

The Sportsman awarded four different hunters with monthly prizes. Strong’s entry was drawn from all entries in the contest.
