Double Trouble

Kent Chavis of Prospect, NC killed an 8-point buck in Marlboro County, SC on Oct. 24, 2026.

He shot the buck with a Ruger .270 Next Gen during an evening hunt while sitting in an elevated stand from 185 yards away.

Chavis summed up the hunt with these words:

“Got in the stand about 5:15 on a perfect evening with the wind definitely in my favor.

About 5:50 I noticed a 4 point buck step out into the field to about 40 yards . He kept looking back to where he came from into the field. He turned and started trotting back toward the woods.

I had already shot the distance with my range finder and knew that deer was 185 yards. At 6 o’clock two bigger bucks stepped out, a seven an eight pointer. I shot the 8 and dropped him in his tracks. The seven just stood there looking and walked over and sniffed his fallen comrade lol. He took another look and turned and walked straight toward me. I allowed him to get to 140 yards and dropped the second one in his tracks.

My first double ever and I thank the good Lord above for allowing me to experience a great hunt.”

Chavis is now entered in our Bag-A-Buck Contest, and is eligible to win our monthly prize pack, which includes a set of Ultimate Eyes & Ears Combo from ShellShock Pro, a YETI Rambler bottle, a prize package from Buck Commander and Duck Commander, and a Carolina Sportsman hat, as well as our Grand Prize, a 2-day hunt for two to Cherokee Run Hunting Lodge in Chesterfield County, SC.
