Hunter kills 350-pound boar while completing Cherokee Run Southern Slam

This trophy boar was 1/3 of Josh Rogers' Southern Slam at Cherokee Run Hunting Lodge in September.

8-point buck, 350-pound hog, and a doe in 48 hours

Getting a “slam” in any sport is a good thing. Inshore anglers strive for the Inshore Slam, catching three popular species on the same trip. Turkey hunters go after their grand slam, in which they travel the country to kill every species of the big game bird in the nation. Bass anglers go after the bass slam, catching all seven black bass species.

At Cherokee Run Hunting Lodge in Chesterfield County, SC, Josh Rogers of Pennsylvania recently completed the Cherokee Run Southern Slam, killing a buck, a boar, and a doe in a 48-hour period.

On the morning of Sept. 14, Rogers’ first day at Cherokee Run, he scored on a nice 8-point buck. Tom Naumann, owner/operator of Cherokee Run, knew from checking his trail cameras that a group of about 20 big hogs was frequenting a different stand, so he felt like the next morning would be a good opportunity for Rogers to get a boar.

The morning hunt was as big a success as the first, with Rogers killing a hog that weighed 350 pounds, and took three people to load. The next morning, Rogers was in the stand again before having to head back to the Keystone State. And when a doe walked out, Rogers pulled the trigger, dropping the doe and completing the Cherokee Run Southern Slam.

Cherokee Run is a 3500 acre property that sits one hour southeast of Charlotte, and two hours west of Myrtle Beach. They offer deer hunts for bucks and does, boar hunts (including night hunts), turkey hunts, and combination hunts.

Hunters at Cherokee Run can shoot bobcats, coyotes, and foxes at no charge as long as those animals are in season.

Cherokee Run has a two-bedroom lodge that can accommodate up to 12 hunters. The lodge is equipped with a full kitchen and everything needed to cook and dine. It also includes wifi, satellite TV, a pool table, a 3-D archery range, and bass ponds.
