Circumstances favor increased urban huntings

With deer becoming more comfortable in urban and suburban settings, hunting opportunities increase.

It’s no mystery why the number of urban and suburban deer hunters are increasing. While deer are a favored species, when numbers soar due to lack of predators, the results are undesirable. Some of these negative factors are:

• Increases in the number of automobile accidents with deer. In addition to endangering motorists, insurance rates are affected and increase proportionally;

• Damage to ornamental plants and gardens;

• Confrontations of deer with humans during the rut;

• Increase incidence of Lyme disease in some regions. Deer are carriers of ticks that harbor the disease and they can pass it to humans.
