Winch them up

Electric-assist reels will help winch up bottomfish and give you more real fishing time during a trip.

When bottom-fishing with live or cut baits, the use of electric-assist reels, such as this Precision Auto Reel HT, can help an angler land more big fish from deepwater ledges.

Electric-assist reels increase the amount of time an angler spends actively fishing for grouper by keeping the baits on the bottom longer. Anglers are constantly having baits intended for grouper stolen by smaller fish and attracting hook-ups from non-target fish such as amberjack.

With an electric reel, rigs can be reeled up faster from the bottom than when using a manual reel for quicker re-baiting.

However, it’s important to note that fish landed on manual reels qualify for record status, while those caught with electric-assist reels do not.
