Must carry items

Clyde Cheek and Jim Thomsen keep this converted school bus/camper on the South Core Banks for regular fishing/camping trips.

There are no restaurants or hotels on the barrier island that is South Core banks. You must take along everything you will need during your stay.

Ice and fuel (gas and diesel) are available at the camp office. In addition to items typically taken on an extended camping trip consider taking:

• A cap mounted headlight.

• Shovel.

• Plenty of bait and tackle.

• Firewood if you plan to build a fire.

• Cast net (small mesh for finger mullet) and bucket with a small, battery powered aerator.

• Any medicines you might need, as well as a first-aid kit.

• Measuring tape and current length and creel limit regulations sheet (available at the ferry office).

• Generator and fuel.

• Coastal recreational fishing license. If you do forget, you can purchase on-line with a smart phone; service thru many carriers is reliable and spotty for others.

• Waders. Use caution when wading; deep holes in the surf can appear and disappear. A beach where one day there was a gentle sloping bottom can be treacherous the next.

• Trash bags to bring all your trash off the island.
