A place for paddlers

The N.C. Kayak Fishing Association holds monthly meetings, as well as several outings and fishing tournaments.

The North Carolina Kayak Fishing Association (NCKFA) was founded in 2008 by Greensboro’s Mark Patterson as an Internet-based organization for kayak fishermen to discuss their interests, exchange information and ideas and plan fishing trips with others of the same interest.

It quickly became an entity of its own and has grown to more than 2,000 members, with monthly meetings in Charlotte, Greensboro, Greenville, Raleigh/Chapel Hill, Wilmington and Winston-Salem. There is no membership fee and the meetings are held in Great Outdoor Provision Company stores across the state, Get Outside in Greensboro and Hook, Line and Paddle in Wilmington.

In addition to the monthly meetings, the NCKFA holds outings and several fishing tournaments across the state to raise funds for groups like Heroes on the Water, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and Wounded Warriors. Two fall events are the Oak Island Fall Classic in October and the Specks and Spots Tournament at Fort Fisher in November. For more information visit the NCKFA website at www.nckfa.com.
