What to wear for winter bass

Winter trips to the lake require some good preparation as far as clothing is concerned.

When winter approaches and you schedule a day on the water, be prepared for temperatures that may start out around or just below freezing and top out between freezing and the mid-50s later in the day.

While wool socks will keep your feet warm, using 100-percent polypropylene sock liners will help keep feet more comfortable and warmer since they draw away moisture from sweaty feet.

Quality, mid-weight E.C.W.C.S thermal underwear is also well worth the investment. Prices vary considerably, so check around for the best deals. Don’t wear it if the temperatures are going much higher than 50, as you may overheat. On those warmer days, a lightweight set of thermals may be all you’ll need.

Insulated waterproof boots are also important, and don’t forget to bring a heavy rain suit in case it snows, sleets or rains.

Waterproof gloves with thumb and index finger openings are appreciated on those extra cold wet days and work really well when jigging a spoon or blade bait.
