9-year-old hunter’s gobbler had 9 3/4-inch beard
Brayden Stroup of Murrells Inlet, S.C. killed a whopper of a gobbler during South Carolina’s opening youth turkey hunting weekend. His turkey weighed 22 pounds, had 7/8-inch spurs and a 9 3/4-inch beard.
The 9-year-old was hunting in Marion County when he killed the big bird.

The Palmetto State’s 2022 youth-only season ran March 19-20 in Game Zones 3 and 4, and will take place March 26-27 in Game Zones 1 and 2.
The open season for all licensed hunters in South Carolina is March 22 through April 30 in Game Zones 3 and 4. It runs April 1 through May 10 in Game Zones 1 and 2.
North Carolina hunters will get their crack at hunting gobblers April 9 through May 7. Youth hunters have a week-long season April 2 to April 8.
