Young hunter passed on several jakes while waiting on big gobbler
Six-year-old Gauge Britt of Myrtle Beach killed a 20.25-pound gobbler on March 19, 2022 during an Horry County hunt with his dad. The young hunter was patient, passing up easy shots at five jakes while waiting for a mature longbeard.
Britt shot the turkey with a 20-gauge Browning. The bird had 7/8-inch long spurs and sported an 8-inch beard.
“This boy makes me the proudest dad in the world. It’s still hard to believe he’s only 6-years-old and does what he does. I live for moments like this!” said Jason Britt, Gauge’s dad. He also credited Brandon Bessant for making the successful hunt possible.
“We had close to 30 different birds around us throughout the morning. They were very vocal,” said Britt.
If Gauge’s name sounds familiar to you, it may be because of this article we wrote about him last year, describing his successful bear hunt.
