Red-phase gobbler had 10-inch beard

Lee Bell of Loris, SC killed a very unique, red-phase gobbler in Horry County, SC on April 21, 2023. Aside from the rare color-phase, the bird also had ivory spurs, which measured 1 1/8 inches long. With a 10-inch beard and weighing 23 pounds, it was a trophy in every way.

Bell said he had not seen the turkey until that day, and was pleasantly surprised at his rare kill.

“I’ve never seen one with feathers that color, and I’ve never seen one with ivory hooks. It’s a hunt I’ll definitely never forget and I’m adding to the memory by having a full mount of the bird. It’s just too unique not to,” he said.
