Got a picture of this buck back in May. I knew immediately that this deer had potential to be something great. The first time I seen him in person was a late July evening, sitting in the peanut field eating.
After seeing him for the first time I knew this was my target buck for the year. After constantly putting corn out all summer and trying to learn this deer’s pattern, I finally started getting more daylight photos of him. I felt more and more excited everyday as the deer opener was approaching.
Soon as season kicked in, he went completely nocturnal, never seen him again in reasonable shooting hours. My second encounter with this buck was August 24th in the morning. I saw this buck across the field at the corner of pike but couldn’t quite see my crosshairs to feel comfortable to take the shot. Fast forward today August 30th, I arrived to the field to hunt and realized that I left my hunting chair, my snake boot, and shooting tripod. I knew this wasn’t going to work but I stuck it out. Hours passed and kept scanning all of the surrounding fields. As I was about to call it early, I decided to check one more time and realize that it was him walking out of the woods and going to the corn.
With only maybe 20-25mins of shooting light left, I was able to sneak to about 140 yards and sit on the ground to setup the shot. I had three doe looking at me while I was setting up, I propped up my rifle on my knee and took a deep breath. Squeezed the trigger and double lunged him to drop straight in his tracks. Beyond blessed to finally put my hands on this deer.
