Victim was 72-year-old man
The SCDNR and Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office have reported the body of Pawleys Island, SC resident Fred Walters has been recovered along the banks of the Waccamaw River in Georgetown County. Walters was 72-years-old.
Details are limited at this time, but deputies said an empty boat was found with the engine running in idle on the river around 9:50 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2023. Teams from Midway Fire Rescue, SCDNR, the Horry County Fire Rescue Dive Team, and US Coast Guard began searching shortly thereafter. The body was located at about 12:15 p.m.
