Youth hunter shot the buck at 20 yards

Waylon Chermak killed a big buck in Mecklenburg County, NC on Sept. 12, 2026 while hunting with his dad.

The young hunter and his dad had put out some Black Widow Deer Lures Branch Butter in some big hardwoods being frequented by several nice bucks, including the one they’d nicknamed Mr. Crabs.

“He’s watched him for a couple of years, but that evening it all came together during an afternoon thunderstorm. Cold rains and high winds were making the acorns rain in those big oaks. It wasn’t long before Mr. Crabs showed up at 20 yards checking out the Branch Butter. The rest was history with memories made. High fives and hugs while celebrating a successful opening evening archery hunt,” said his dad, Jonathan Chermak.
