Finally flounder!

NC’s 2025 flounder season opens Sept. 1

North Carolina’s anglers have been waiting for more than a year to get the chance at keeping a flounder, and they’re finally getting it beginning Sept. 1.

The season will last only two weeks, which is not exactly what anglers were hoping for, and the daily limit of 1-flounder per day is also disappointing.

But anglers who get after them should find some good ones.

Capt. Noah Lynk of Noah’s Ark Charters said anglers should be selective in what they decide to keep.

“We expect to see some true doormats, and with a limit of one per day, I wouldn’t keep the first 15-incher you catch,” he said.

Fifteen inches total length is the minimum size allowed, and Lynk said anglers should set their sights a little higher than that.

Capt. Noah Lynk said anglers should hold out for a doormat during the 14-day flounder season.

“We’ve caught and released some really big flounder in the past year, and we know some anglers are going to be really happy once they target them,” he said. “If you throw the first 15-incher you catch into your cooler, you’re going to wish you’d waited when you get a big one on the line.”

Lynk fishes all around the Cape Lookout/Harkers Island area and can be reached at 252-342-6911.
