I wasn’t going to hunt that day. My wife told me she thought it was a good day to get in a hunt.
I had been in the stand a couple hours and wasn’t seeing anything. I decided to turn around and look down the trail to see if something decided to come out behind me. The buck was just there 130 yards from me.
I still hadn’t seen his rack good. I was just concentrating on a perfect sight picture and a good trigger squeeze. The 7mm08 handload found its mark and the buck ran out of view.
My buddy showed up and we tracked him about 60 yards and found the biggest buck I have ever taken. I also realized he was the buck that I let walk 2 weeks before because he wouldn’t cooperate and give me a good shot on him.
