Wateree Rifle and Pistol Range opens in Eastover

Wateree Range

The range is free and open to the public

Whether you need to sight your rifle in or would like to run a few rounds through the chamber of your handguns, the SCDNR has good news for you. They’ve opened a new rifle/pistol range in the midlands. And the best part is, it’s free.

The Wateree Rifle and Pistol Range in Eastover officially opened on Friday, July 21. The range is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We have been looking for an opportunity to build a public shooting range in the midlands for several years, and the Wateree Rifle and Pistol Range meets this need. Now, folks in the midlands have a place where they can shoot safely for free,” said SCDNR Maj. Billy Downer.

The range has 14 rifle stations. Rifle shooters can set their targets up to 100 yards away. Pistol shooters have 12 stations to choose from, and can have their targets up to 25 yards away.

The SCDNR stressed that shooters should bring their own paper targets and arrive with guns unloaded and cased. The range is located near the Wateree Range shotgun sports facility, which has sporting clays, skeet, trap, and a five-stand. But the rifle and pistol range uses a different entrance on Hezakiah Road, which is off of Hwy. 76/378 between Sumter and Columbia.
