Wateree Range shotgun sports facility opens in South Carolina

Wateree Range
The Wateree Range is the newest shotgun sports facility in South Carolina's midlands.

Wateree Range is open to the public

The shout of “pull” followed by an orange disc sailing against the backdrop of pine trees and blue sky, the report of a shotgun, and the orange disc turning to dust filled the air in Eastover, S.C. last Tuesday on the grounds of a once-proud sporting clays club. That club has been replaced, renovated, and is better than ever.

Shotgun sporting enthusiasts have a new facility in South Carolina’s midlands now that the SCDNR has opened Wateree Range, which was formerly known as the Indigo Club. The Range is located in Richland County, between Sumter and Columbia, and features skeet, trap, a five-stand, and sporting clays.

Wateree Range opened early last week, and is funded through a cooperative project between the SCDNR, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and The Conservation Fund. Shooters will find the facility to be a bargain, with 25 clays costing $5, and a full round of 50 clays on the eight-station sporting clays course will cost $10.

And while the facility is located on the old grounds of the Indigo Club, no traces remain of the old equipment that was present when SCDNR procured the range. All new traps are in place, and a 100-foot tower gives shooters unique target offerings.

Wateree Range is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Only shotgun sports are currently available at Wateree Range, but rifle and pistol ranges are expected to be added later this year.

Contact information for the Wateree Range is as follows:
