Public input being accepted on speckled trout plan
According to the North Carolina Divisions of Marine Fisheries, speckled trout are not overfished, but the species is experiencing overfishing. This basically means that if the overfishing is allowed to continue, the stock of speckled trout will at some point be classified as overfished.
The DMF is asking for input from anglers and other stakeholders on what changes they’d like to see to address the situation. They are working on the Spotted Seatrout Fishery Management Plan Amendment 1. They are accepting public comments through March 24 on the subject.
Comments can be submitted online through this website.
The Division will also accepts comments through snail mail at this address:

Several meeting have been scheduled for the public to attend to learn more about Amendment 1, and to make comments.
