Shotgun techniques, safety are on tap for youths aged 10 and above
The S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the National Wild Turkey Federation are offering a great opportunity for aspiring young hunters to attend a free wing-shooting clinic on Wednesday, Aug. 12, in Edgefield County.
Participants with skill levels from beginner to advanced learn how to safely handle and shoot a shotgun. The clinic, which will run from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., will introduce all the basic wing-shooting skills needed for a successful hunt.
Target presentations will resemble actual hunting situations, and youth in attendance will have the opportunity to clean, cook and sample quail they have prepared. A wildlife enforcement officer will cover basic regulations and safety afield, and some of the newest bird-hunting gear will be on site.
There is no charge for the clinic, and lunch will be provided. SCDNR welcomes parents and guardians to stay while their students participate.
