Shannon Mattson of Hanahan, SC killed a full velvet, 10-point buck in Dorchester County, SC on Aug. 16, 2026.
Mattson shot the buck with a Browning X-Bolt .30-06 during an afternoon hunt while sitting in an elevated stand from 160 yards away.
She summed up the hunt with these words:
“I had been watching this buck for months as season was getting closer, but he would never stick to same pattern. On the second day of the season, the wind was only good for one stand, so I went there without high hopes. I was watching some does, yearlings and small bucks when he stepped out at last light possible and all I saw was horns. I took a deep breath, pulled the trigger and saw him fall!”
