Good food, bargain buys, raffle giveaways await banquet goers
Whether you’re a fan of turkey hunting, waterfowl hunting, or saltwater fishing, several organizations in both Carolinas are present making sure we have those fish and game species available to pursue for us and future generations. And one way for them to keep doing what they do is by raising money during their banquets.
Delta Waterfowl, the NWTF, CCA, and the South Carolina Waterfowl Association are some of the organizations that help in many ways to keep the wild fish and game we love available for hunting. They do this through everything from habitat improvement, education, and keeping legislation on track.
But they can’t do it without money. That’s where the banquets come in. Besides a full spread of catered food that can range from shrimp boils to fried gator nuggets, these organizations raise a lot of money through the auctions and raffles that take place during the banquets.
Catered shrimp boils, hunting and fishing equipment, guided trips, household decor and accommodations at various places are just a handful of items and services you can bid on or buy raffle tickets for.
The banquets are also great for networking with like-minded people.
The NWTF opens the banquet season this weekend with the South Carolina State Rendezvous Chapter’s event falling on Friday, Jan. 20 at Hickory Knob State Park in McCormick. The next South Carolina event for NWTF will be the Aiken County Chapter event on Feb. 3 at Aiken County Shrine Club. The Chester County Hunting Heritage Banquet is on Feb. 4 at the Chester National Guard Armory.
Also on Feb. 4 is the Zach Farmer Orangeburg Chapter NWTF at The Cinema in Orangeburg. Clemson University, home of the 2017 NCAA Football National Champions, will hold their banquet at Occasions At Wedgfield in Central on Feb. 9
The Turkey Creek Chapter is up on Feb. 10 at the National Guard Armory in Barnwell, and the Greenville Wild Turkey Chapter holds their banquet on Feb. 22 at the St. George Hellenic Center.
Next up is the Mac McEwen Chapter in Sumter on Feb. 24 at the Fair Memorial Building at the Sumter Fairgrounds. The Georgetown Five Rivers Chapter banquet is next, on Feb. 25 at Marshall’s Marine in Georgetown.

The NWTF’s North Carolina banquets also get cranking this weekend with the North Carolina State Awards Dinner on Jan. 21 at the Crystal Coast Civic Center in Morehead City. The Davidson County Longbeards are up on Jan. 27 at Richard Childress Racing Enterprises in Welcome, with the Randolph County Longbeards meeting the next evening at Avs Banquet Centre in Asheboro.
The Lee County Chapter meets for their banquet on Feb. 3 at the Elks Lodge in Sanford. The Southern Piedmont Chapter meets on the same day at the Moore County Homebuilders Association in Aberdeen.
On Feb. 4, the South Fork Limbhangers will hold their banquet at The Laboratory Mill in Lincolnton. And the Pender County Longbeards will meet on the same day at New Hanover County Law Enforcement Center in Castle Hayne.
The Downeast Gobblers’ banquet is Feb. 10 at King Barbecue in Kinston, and the Southern Strutters will get together on Feb. 11 at Triple J Manor House in Mocksville. Feb. 11 is also the date of the Union County banquet at The View at Emerald Lake in Matthews.
The Smoky Mountain Chapter banquet is on Feb. 18 at Old Hackney Warehouse in Murphy, and on Feb. 24, several banquets will be held. The Surry Longspurs banquet will be at The Barn at Heritage Farm in Dobson, the Chatham County Limbhangers will meet at Siler City Moose Lodge, the Little River Chapter will gather at the James Garner Center in Troy, and the Neuse Chapter will meet at Newborn Riverfront Convention Center.
On Feb. 25, the Forsyth Full Strutters will meet at Village Inn Hotel and Event Center in Clemmons, and the Three Rivers Chapter will get together at Vineland Station in Whiteville.
