Having the right tools makes every job easier. Chris Warren carries a few essentials in a small backpack to make his hunts a little easier.
•A GPS helps him find his way, but more importantly, helps him track his dogs individually and identify when and where a hog is bayed.
• A knife with an 8- to 10-inch blade and a sharp point makes for a quick and humane kill that is also safe for the hunters and dogs.
• A folding saw allows hunters to cut down small trees for hauling out the harvest, while 550 para cord or small diameter rope keeps it secured to the tree.
• A small sections of foam pool noodles are a luxury well worth the space they take up in a backpack. “Wrap one section around the ends of that small tree and it will make hauling a hog out a whole lot easier on your shoulders,” Warren said.
