Youth hunter was first to enter Bag A Buck 2023

Mallary Ann Matthews entered Aug. 12

Mallary Ann Matthews, 9-years-old from Alcolu, SC became the first entrant of the 2023 CarolinaSportsman.com Bag A Buck Contest with a 7-point buck in full velvet. She killed the deer on Aug. 12, which was the first South Carolina Youth Day for Game Zones 3 and 4.

Matthews’ buck weighed 150 pounds, and she had been looking forward to the hunt for some time.

“She had been watching a few nice bucks on camera for a couple of weeks. Her daddy gave her the option of which stand to hunt that morning, and I’m so glad she picked the right one. We are so proud of her!” said her mom, Tiffany Matthews.

Along with every other entrant in our Bag A Buck Contest, Matthews is now eligible for the Grand Prize, which includes a 3-year subscription to Carolina Sportsman Magazine and  2-day, two-person deer/hog hunt at Cherokee Run Hunting Lodge in Chesterfield, SC.
