That .06 of a deer must have been difficult to kill

Here are some facts about North Carolina’s deer harvest in 2013-14 and from the 2012-13 Hunter Harvest surveys compiled by the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission.

• In 2013-14, North Carolina hunters killed 21,113 deer with blackpowder weapons and 145,396 deer with rifles or shotguns out of a total record reported harvest of 188,130.

• In 2012-13, 243,584 hunters participated in North Carolina’s deer season; they were afield 3,478,064 days.

• In 2012-13, the average deer hunter spent 14.28 days in the woods.

• In 2012-13, the average success rate was .90 deer per hunter

• In 2012-13, individual hunters killed an average of .06 deer per day.

• The actual deer harvest in 2012-13 was 219,385 animals.
