See all that you can see

Bushnell’s lightweight Legend Ultra HD 8x42 binoculars are a great choice for still-hunting situations.

Other than your weapon, quality binoculars are arguably the most-important piece of equipment for the still-hunter. Barry Wensel said his binoculars are the one piece of equipment he will turn around and go back home to get if forgotten.

Using binoculars while still-hunting will help distinguish distant objects. While looking for deer when still-hunting, we look for movement, a flick of the tail, ear or horizontal lines of backs and stomachs, but one of the tell-tale signs is also the “v” shape of the hind leg. The irregular shape of the hock on the hind leg as it moves will give them away to the wary hunter.

Binoculars help distinguish shapes and movement. Chad Simpson of Hendersonville, a veteran hunter, said, “When I come to a stop, I survey the surrounding area for deer, then I survey it with my binoculars. Once I have done that, I do it again. I wish I knew how many times I have found deer on my second pass with the binoculars.”

A great choice is the lightweight Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 8×42. These binoculars are great for dense underbrush or open terrain. Excellent at light-gathering and rain-proof, these come standard with a harness system that keeps then held tight to your chest.
