SCDNR considering suspending deer hunting season

The SCDNR is considering suspending deer season in some counties due to recent flooding.

Certain counties to be impacted

Due to flooding and other factors related to the flooding, the SCDNR is considering suspending deer hunting season for certain counties. This agency is guessing the suspension will be brief, lasting less than a week, but no firm decision has been made just yet.

The DNR is meeting with biologists and other stakeholders to see which counties should experience the temporary closure, and they expect to release a statement sometime today.

The most likely counties to be affected, according to SCDNR sources, include Horry and Georgetown, which are expected to have more flooding as the high water from north and west of these coastal counties will drain into their watersheds. The most likely scenario is that deer hunting will be suspended starting tomorrow, Oct 8, and running through Sunday the 11th.

Hunters are urged to stay tuned to media outlets such as SouthCarolinaSportsman.com, as more information will be provided once it becomes available.
