Salt Lick does the trick
Preston Honicutt of Abbeville has been putting out salt licks for white-tailed deer for nearly twenty years in the same place, and he captured his Double Buck image at his mineral station and has won the third edition of the 2010 SouthCarolinaSportsman.com Trail Cam Contest.With the Trail Camera craze developing in the last decade he has learned to set up his camera right at the salt licks. For the past five years he has practiced trophy management and reports having seen great improvement in the bucks caught on camera. The Double Buck trail cam pic almost looks like a mirror image of a big buck, and it was voted by viewers as the most remarkable entry during the three-day voting session.
Honicutt won a Sportsman Gear prize pack, including a Sportsman logo t-shirt and a one-year subscription to South Carolina Sportsman magazine. Anyone can enter the Trail Cam contest, but only Registered Users of SouthCarolinaSportsman.com are eligible to win the prize at the end of the next session which runs from November 15 to December 15.
Honorable mention goes to Justin Byrd of Chesterfield for his entry called Monster 12, showing a side-view of a big buck at night in a food plot. Byrd estimates his rack at 18-inches wide and notes he is one of four quality bucks using a small ½-acre food plot. Third place in the voting went to David Kneece of Aiken and his Trail Cam daytime pic of a buck rubbing his antlers in a tree over a fresh scrape.
