Jackie Cole’s Patrick County, Virginia black bear measured 21 15/16 inches.

This was the third time black bears have been scored at the Dixie Deer Classic. Black bears are scored by measuring the dried skulls’ length and width. They are scored in 1/16 of an inch. For comparison to whitetail deer, a black bear scoring 18 inches is equivalent to a 125-inch deer. Killing a 21-inch black bear is akin to killing a 170-inch whitetail.
