The wahoo ‘rodeo’

Capt. Chris Critz and the Critter won last fall’s Hook-A-Hoo tournament.

Several years ago, Jeff Martini started a tournament to showcase the area’s great wahoo fishing and raise money for charity.

Martini’s “Hook-A-Hoo Rodeo,” which benefit the Shriner’s, began as a spring tournament out of Harbourgate Marina in North Myrtle Beach in 2008. Seegars joined forces with Martini last year, adding a fall tournament fished out of Southport and Wrightsville Beach. This year’s event will be Nov. 2-17.

In last year’s inaugural fall tournament, Capt. Chris Critz and the Critter took home top honors with a 63.15-pounder.

The Hook-A-Hoo events have raised more than $30,000 for the Shriners. For more information, visit www.hookahoo.com and www.hookahoorodeo.com.
