Details on beach-driving permits
• Topsail Beach opens its southern end to beach driving from Oct. 1 until midnight on March 31 or the Thursday before Easter, whichever comes first. The fee is $50 per vehicle for nonresidents and $25 for permanent residents and property owners. A weekly pass costs $25. The only beach access is at the intersection of Drum Avenue and Ocean Boulevard. Driving closer than 10 feet to the toe of any dune is prohibited. The maximum speed is 15 mph. Only factory-manufactured, 4-wheel drive vehicles with current licenses may be used; ATVs and dune buggies are prohibited. Permits may be purchased at the Town Hall, 820 S. • Fort Fisher beach-driving permits cost $12 daily and $50 annually. No alcoholic beverages are allowed, and driving on dunes or vegetation is prohibited. All vehicles must be four-wheel drives, registered and licensed for highway use. No open fires are allowed, and pets must be on leashes. No entry is allowed in the marked, waterbird nesting areas. • Freeman Park beach-driving permits cost $20 daily, $40 for two days, $50 for a three-day pass and $60 annually from Jan. 31-March 31. After March 31, the annual fee increases to $100. They can be obtained at a kiosk at the park entrance or Town Hall, 1204 N. Lake Park Blvd., from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday and at seven other locations around the town of Carolina Beach seven days per week.
