Night moves

Crappie on Lake Greenwood, Clarks Hill and Lake Murray tend to congregate in certain parts of those reservoirs during the summer.

Successful night-fishing for crappie is more than just throwing out lights under a bridge. When polled about the best locations for three Midlands lakes, guides Rod Wall and Brad Taylor made predictions about where to fish from mid-June through July. Here’s what they had to say:

• Lake Greenwood — Fish on the main-river channel edges from the upper railroad trestle down to Goat Island, but depending on water conditions, you could back that up and say from SC 72 bridge down to the dam.

• Clarks Hill Reservoir — Fish any of the mid-creek bridges like US 378 or the US 220 and 100 yards on either side of those bridges at the edge of the channel.

• Lake Murray — FIsh the Adam’s Camp bridge over Camping Creek near Dreher Island, the bridge over at Big Man’s Landing at SC 391 and Black’s Bridge over the Big Saluda River on SC 391. Also, fish any brush pile in the mid-lake area near Dreher Island as long as you have some decent water flow and water that’s at least 12 to 15 feet deep.
