Sumter fishermen make it two in a row on Wateree

Billy McIntosh and Rick McLean of Sumter won the CATT event on Lake Wateree last weekend.

McIntosh, McLean win CATT event with 20.57 pounds

Billy McIntosh and Rick McLean of Sumter made it back-to-back victories by winning a second-consecutive Carolina Anglers Team Trail tournament June 22 on Lake Wateree with a 20.57-pound sack.

The two anglers won this tournament in much the same fashion as their previous victory.

“We used everything in the tackle box,” said McIntosh, who said jigs, topwater lures, and soft plastics all played a role in collecting their 5-fish limit and $950 in winnings. They focused on the lower end of the lake, and caught most of their fish pretty close to the Clearwater Cove landing.

Jeff Reynolds and Lee Royson of Blythewood took second place with their 18.12-pound limit, winning $300. Camden’s Max Price and Joey Outlaw, who also brought 18.12 to the scales but lost out on the tiebreaker because Reynolds and Royson’s big fish outweighed theirs. Price and Outlaw collected $200 for their bag.

Lugoff’s Steve and Cody Phillips finished fourth with 17.41 and pocketed $110, followed by fifth place finishers Jimmy McFarland and Calvin Griggs, both of Hartsville, who weighed in 17.40 and won $100.

The tournament’s big fish bit for Conway’s Kristin Forquer, who teamed up with Wyatt Hammonds of Myrtle Beach. Forquer caught the 5.63-pounder to win both the tournament’s big fish and the lady angler’s big fish. She took home $175.
