Stone, Wilks, Wolak place at Erie

Three North Carolina anglers earned paydays at the July 31-Aug. 3 Empire Chase Bassmaster Elite Series event at Lake Erie/Niagara River near Buffalo, N.Y.

Marty Stone of Linden placed 28th with 49-11; Dustin Wilks of Rocky Mount ranked 37th with 48-05; and Dave Wolak of Wake Forest finished 40th with 47-14. They each received $10,000.

Tar Heel fishermen claimed three of the top five places at the August 7-10 Champion’s Choice Bassmaster Elite Series event at Oneida Lake, Syracuse, N. Y.

Kevin Langill of Terrell had the best showing in his BASS career with a second-place finish. His catch of 60-07 paid $30,000.

Wilks finished third with 59-00, and Wolak ranked fifth with 57-09. They each received $18,000.

Pat Golden of High Point placed 46th with 31-12 and won $10,000.

Dean Rojas of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, captured the first-place prize of $102,000 with 65-02 thanks largely to skill with a Spro frog bait.

Smithfield’s Steve Wisniewski earned $905 by placing fourth with 13-00 at the August 9 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Northeast Division tournament at the Chesapeake Bay near North East, Maryland.

Wilks and Wolak have qualified for the 2009 Bassmaster Classic based upon their rankings in the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year standings.

Michael Bennett of Lincoln, Calif., became the sport’s newest millionaire by winning the event.
