Lexington’s David Wright won the June 21 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League North Carolina Division tournament with a five-fish tournament limit weighing 23-12 to outdistance his closest competitor by more than 5 pounds.
Wright’s haul consisted of three 4-pound bass, one 5-pound bass, and a kicker bass of 6 pounds, 2 ounces.
“It doesn’t get any better than that at High Rock,” said Wright, who used a chartreuse-classic-colored Zoom Z-3 crankbait and a Zoom Old Monster worm to catch his fish
Wright earned $4,573 for first place, a Ranger contingency bonus of $807, and a Ranger Cup bonus of $1,000.
Yadkinville’s Danny Haire placed second with 18-08 and received $2,690. He caught his fish with a Carolina-rigged black plastic worm.
Steve Shaw of Dallas placed third with 18-04 and banked $1,794; and Steve Sink of Winston-Salem ranked fourth with 17-10 and collected $1,255.
Roger Pope of Statesville tied James “Nick “ Nance of Denton for fifth with each angler weighing in 17-06 and each angler receiving $1,031.
Other scores were Kyle Whisenant of Iron Station, seventh, with 17-04 that paid $897; Brian Huskins of Mount Holly, eighth, with 16-08 that paid $807; Doug Young of Salisbury, ninth, with 16-04 that paid $717; and Carl Prater of Caryville, Tenn., 10th, with 16-01 that paid $628.
Nance took the big-fish award of $855 with a 7-pound, 2-ounce bass.
Charles Price of Bostic ranked first among the co-anglers with 13-03 and won $2,690.
Jason Brown of Zionville tied Eddie Yahya of Archdale for second place. Each angler had 13 pounds, and each received $1,122.
David J. Wright of Mooresville tied Justin Burleson of Albemarle for fourth place with each angler weighing in 12-07 and each winning $583.
Other co-angler scores were Michael Davis of New London, sixth, with 12-06 for $493; Ronnie Cox of Conover, seventh, with 12-01 for $448; Robert Adams of Greensboro, eighth, with 11-12 for $404; Ricky McCrary of Lexington, ninth, with 10-08 for $359; and Chad Helton of Mt. Holly, 10th, with 10-06 for $314.
Lloyd Anderson of Hickory took the co-angler big-fish award of $427 with a 6-pound, 3-ounce bass.
Boater Todd Harris of Pfafftown placed fourth at the June 21 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Shenandoah Division tournament at the James River, Richmond, Va. His catch of 11-11 was worth $829.
Co-angler Mark Robertson of Henderson finished second with 10-04 and received $876.
Linden’s Marty Stone ranked 12th with 42-03 and received $12,300 at the June 26-29 Tennessee Triumph Elite Series tournament at Old Hickory Lake, Hendersonville, Tenn.
Dustin Wilks of Rocky Mount finished 15th with 32-00 and collected $10,600. Kevin Langill of Terrell had 31-07 to claim the 17th spot and $10,500. Cherryville’s Guy Eaker placed 44th with 24-15 and received $10,000.
Chris Baumgardner of Gastonia placed second at the July 16-19 Stren Series Northern Division tournament at Lake Champlain, Platttsburgh, N.Y. His four-day haul of 73-15 paid $8,082. He also received a Ranger bonus of $5,000.
Thomasville’s George Lambeth claimed the big-fish award of $243 with a 5-pound, 7-ounce bass.
