Hamrick, Wood are winners on Lake Wylie

Charles Wood of Thomasville was the top co-angler at the Bassmaster Weekend Series tournament on Lake Wylie last weekend, helped greatly by this 4.14-pound bass.

Anglers from Denver, Thomasville win at Bassmaster Weekend Series

Scott Hamrick of Denver won the July 27  Bassmaster Weekend Series N.C. Division 5 tournament at Lake Wylie with a 5-fish catch totaling 16.70 pounds anchored by a 4.24-pound bass, the second-biggest fish of the day.

Hamrick received a total of $2,372 for the victory and bonus awards.

Hamrick, who is well-known around Lake Norman, targeted shallow docks at Wylie with a half-ounce Shooter jig. His biggest challenge came from another Lake Norman regular, Jerry Lineberger of Lincolnton, who had a limit catch weighing 14.23 pounds. Lineberger collected the runner-up check for $936.

Two other North Carolina fishermen earned checks. Jeff Jennings of Charlotte was fourth with 13.04 pounds for $437, and Steve Dyer of Mt. Pleasant ranked fifth with 12.57 pounds for $374.

Thomasville’s Charles Wood topped the co-anglers with 8.79 pounds and won $1,021. He also had the co-angler big fish of the day with a 4.14-pound bass.

Other co-angler scores were: Rodney Vaow of Cornelius, second, with 6.09 pounds that paid $468; Ken Fender of Dallas, third, with 5.59 pounds that paid $312; Thomas McDermott of Madison, fourth, with 5.52 pounds that paid $218; Bryan New of Belmont, fifth, with 4.91 pounds that paid $187; and Ethan Lyon of Elkin, sixth, with 4.85 pounds that paid $172.
