Super Bowl of fishing is this weekend, March 24 through 26

The 2017 Bassmaster Classic will be held this weekend at Lake Conroe in Houston, Tx. Four anglers from the Carolinas will be competing in this year’s event, which begins Friday, March 24 and ends Sunday.

Casey Ashley of Donalds, S.C., Andy Montgomery of Blacksburg, S.C., Jason Williamson of Wagener,  S.C., and Hank Cherry of Lincolnton, N.C. will all be participating in this year’s Super Bowl of fishing.

For Ashley, this marks his 8th Bassmaster Classic. and his 4th in a row. Ashley won the tournament in 2015 on Lake Hartwell, and finished 16th last year.

This will be Montgomery’s 3rd trip to the Classic. He also fished in the 2011 and 2015 Classics, and looks to improve on his best finish of 36.

Williamson is returning to the Classic for the first time since 2011, when he made his first appearance at the Louisiana Delta event, placing 47th.

Cherry finished 3rd in the 2013 Classic at Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees during his first year on the Elite Series trail, in which he won Elite Series Rookie of the Year. He also made it to the Lake Guntersville Bassmaster Classic in 2014, but missed out in 2015 and 2016. This will be his 3rd appearance.
