Day Four of Big Rock was a quiet one

This dolphin was one of only a handful of fish to make it to the docks on Day Four of the 62nd Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament out of Morehead City, N.C.

Only 11 boats fished on Day Four

Day Four at the 62nd Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament was the slowest of this week. Only 11 boats braved the rough seas on Thursday, and only one billfish was released. No blue marlin were brought to the scales for the second day in a row, meaning the Fabulous Fisherman’s Prize of $550,525 is still up for grabs as the tournament begins to wind down.

SEA WOLF caught the lone billfish of the day, a blue marlin they released at 1:39 p.m. They took home $5000 for having the first release of Day Four.

In the meat fish categories, it was a slow day there as well. Three gamefish were brought in. DOUBLE B brought two of them in. They took the $2000 prized money for their 25-pound dolphin, the heaviest mahi of the day.

MARKED OFF won the second place prize for the heaviest dolphin of the day. They pocketed $1000 for their efforts.

Tuna category is still wide open at 2020 Big Rock

Among the 100+ boats that layed out on Thursday was the FLORIDIAN’s crew. This boat took a hard hit while heading in through Beaufort Inlet on Day Three, damaging the boat’s bow enough to require some out-of-the-water maintenance. But the crew will be back fishing the Big Rock on Friday out of the Morehead City-based ISLAND GIRL.

Action should pick up in a major way on Friday. The vast majority of the fleet will be back on the water and eager to bring a 500+ pound marlin to the scale for that $550,525. And that’s not the only big money at stake.

C-ESCAPE still leads the Heaviest Wahoo category with their 75.2 pounder. SINGULARIS leads the Heaviest Dolphin pool with a 55.2-pound mani. The Heaviest Tuna category is still void of any entrants, so that category is still anybody’s to win.
