Lake Wylie bass on the move

Lake Wylie bass fishermen have been using a wide variety of lures to trick post-spawn bass.

Patterns changing day-to-day, but fish are biting.

Jerry Neeley of Carolinas Fishing Guide Service said that largemouth bass at Lake Wylie are on the move – off the beds and headed out.

Neeley (704-678-1043) said that productive patterns are changing from day-to-day as fish leave the backs of spawning coves and head to deeper water.

“It’s almost all postspawn right now,” Neeley said. “There are a few still on the bed. You might fish 10 covers and all of the sudden you’ll see a couple of fish bedding.”

Neeley said that the grass that grew up on exposed banks during last summer’s extended period of low water was holding fish last week – with a Chatterbait the most productive lure.

“There was a lot of grass that had grown up in the middle of the coves, and that’s where we’d been catching ‘em,” Neeley said. “Now, it looks like they’ve moved out of the coves.

“We caught ‘em (Friday morning) on docks – the first dock on each side of a cove as you go in. We tried to catch ‘em on floating worms, but we wound up catching ‘em on a Texas-rigged Zoom lizard – green pumpkin with the tail dyed chartreuse.

“The fishing has really, really been good. I’d expect us to be catching ‘em on topwater next week – if not by this weekend.”
