Spoiled for the first bird

My daughter Tabetha (13) was super excited to go on her first turkey hunt for the opening day of NC’s 2023 youth season in Onslow County. It started out with up to 20-mph winds going in, so we stuck to the woods at first, but herd one gobbling on the limb. So we repositioned and snuck in close and set up. As it got daylight the bird went quiet. It was so windy we couldn’t hear much, and he popped out full strut at 30 yards, heading straight to our decoy, and I realized how big it was! Tabetha dropped him at 10 yards with her .410. The bird weighed 19 pounds with a 12 1/2-inch beard 1 1/2-inch spurs.
