Landon Gasque kills first turkey

Landon Gasque

Landon Gasque, 11-years-old, killed his first gobbler on April 1, 2023 in Dillon County. With heavy wind gusts blowing that morning Landon, his dad Greg Gasque, and Uncle Stuart Poston setup before daybreak on the edge of a freshly planted corn field with hopes of calling in a longbeard.

The action started early with a large gobbler entering the field right after daybreak. But the bird would never commit and stayed well out of range. The group waited several hours with not a hint of a turkey before they started to quietly pack up their gear. Then right before emerging from the blind, a gobbler entered the field at around 75 yards away. The gobbler showed lot of interest with plenty of strutting and gobbling, but like the previous bird, it stayed well out of range. Then, minutes later, a third gobbler entered the field and put a on a magnificent show for 10 to 15 minutes before finally committing to the decoys. Once the gobbler got to around 20 yards away, Landon put the perfect shot on the gobbler to end an awesome hunt. The gobbler had a 9 1/2-inch beard and 1-inch spurs.

Landon would like to thank his ‘Uncle’ Stuart Poston for calling the turkey in for him.
