With rain and wind on opening day in Rutherford County, I went straight to a ground blind I had set up earlier in the week. With all the rain, there was still movement throughout the morning, starting out with six jakes. Then, every so often, a hen would peck its way by me, then around 11 a.m., I did a run with my glass-over-slate call, and before I finished, I saw movement in woods, and I said to myself “here he comes.” The big wet Tom weighed 23 pounds, had a 9-inch beard, and 1 5/8-inch spurs.
