Seth Almond’s opening day gobbler weighed 20-pounds

Youth hunter Seth Almond of Camden, S.C. had a big day this past Saturday, South Carolina’s opening youth day for the 2022 turkey hunting season. The 9-year-old hunter opened his season by killing a 20-pound gobbler.

Almond was hunting on some family land in Lee County when he pulled the Benelli 20-gauge trigger on the big bird. The turkey had a 10.5-inch beard and 1-inch long spurs.

The Palmetto State’s youth-only season ran March 19-20 in Game Zones 3 and 4, and will take place March 26-27 in Game Zones 1 and 2.

The open season for all licensed hunters in South Carolina is March 22 through April 30 in Game Zones 3 and 4. It runs April 1 through May 10 in Game Zones 1 and 2.

North Carolina hunters will get their crack at hunting gobblers April 9 through May 7. Youth hunters have a week-long season April 2 to April 8.
