Lee County 8-point buck had broken antlers

Rory Crawford killed a Lee County 8-point buck during an evening hunt on Sept. 9, 2024 with his Hoyt compound bow. He shot the deer from 30 yards away while perched in a tree stand. The deer ran less than 20 yards before dropping.

Crawford had seen the buck through trail cam footage over the summer.

“This buck was on camera since July,” said Crawford. “When he came in on Sept. 9, he was trailing a doe.”

Unfortunately, the buck had a broken set of antlers. Still, Crawford was impressed with the buck.

“Once the deer was recovered, we realized his two crab claws had been broken off in a fight!” he said. “Even losing two tines, this was definitely a mature bruiser.”
