Ricky Gibson’s giant birthday buck

birthday buck

It all started Tuesday morning, Nov. 2, 2021 on my 21st birthday. I asked my older brother to go hunting with me after we got off work. At 3 p.m., I rushed home, grabbed my gun, and changed into my camo gear.

We drove to the hunting land and I got into the deer stand at 5 o’clock. About 30 minutes later, I heard a deer grunting and he came running through the brush out of sight and into the field behind me.

At 5:45pm I heard a deer walking the fence line. The buck jumped the fence and charged toward me as my heart started to race. Once he got about 10 yards from me, he was behind a tree shaking his head and I didn’t have a clear shot. He took a few steps and I lined up my aim and pulled the trigger with my Thompson Center muzzleloader. After taking him home to show friends and family, we measured his horns and he scored about 160 inches.
