I’ve been seeing this deer come in an hour or two before the sunset almost every evening. I had my eye on him. We went to hunt for the first time this season and he was the only deer we seen that night. He came in about 5pm that evening walking in from the left side of me about 15 yards. I wasn’t ready at that time to shoot. Finally when I was ready to shoot he was 27 yards directly from me. I was shaken terribly. He was the biggest deer I’ve ever laid eyes on or seen in person. I couldn’t hold it together. I was having trouble clipping my release onto my bow to draw it back but I did. I shot at him and missed. It went right underneath his belly. He looked around wondering what that sound or noise was. I felt he maybe thought it was acorns dropping. I reload another arrow and had another opportunity to shoot at him again. I finally got him that time but I knew it wasn’t the perfect shot I have been practicing for. He was slightly quartering me so that helped. I was so shook up from how massive this deer was. My height was perfect where I shot him but not so great on the x-direction. I was a little further back then I wanted but that’s okay. We went in to track him down a couple hours later and found him laying down in a hole about 170 yards away from where I shot him. The arrow was still stuck in him. This hunt was the greatest hunt I’ve ever experienced or witnessed in my life. Most definitely something I will never forget.
